Polygonatum falcatum 'Nippon Sunbeam'

Nippon Sunbeam Solomon's Seal We received this amazing Asian Solomon Seal as Polygonatum falcatum 'Goshikidai', but we think this is the cultivar named 'Nippon Sunbeam'. A gorgeous variegated form with 30" long arching stems with 6" long green leaves with irregular, striping of yellow. Every leaf seems to be entirely different from the next. Typical creamy white, tubular flowers hang from each leaf axil in late spring/early summer. In fall, as with most Solomon Seal's are bunches of purple to black berries where the floweres were. We take the seed berries once they are sort of squishy and push them in the ground near the plant. It may take 2 years before you see above ground growth. You could also just grow them in a pot holding over winter outdoors in a protected area. Although easy to grow and straight forward, this species of Solomon's Seal creates small, slender rhizomes that need a bit of time to settle in before they take off. Just a bit sluggish in the start. Hardy zones 4a-8b.
